If you’ve ever tried to start or grow an online business, you’ve probably noticed one thing very quickly: there are a lot of tools out there. Too many, honestly.
Everywhere you look, someone is telling you that you need another app, another system, another platform, another subscription, or another complicated setup to succeed online.
A few years ago, I found myself overwhelmed by all of it.
As a midlife woman building a business online, I didn’t want more noise. I wanted simplicity. I wanted tools that felt supportive, easy to use, and realistic for everyday life. I wanted a business that felt calm and intentional rather than chaotic and exhausting.
Over time, I stopped chasing every shiny new thing and started building my business around tools I genuinely enjoy using and actually use consistently.
So today, I thought I’d share a few of the tools, resources, and cozy little favorites that help me run LM Magazine, record my podcast, host my masterclasses, stay organized, and keep showing up online without burning myself out.
My Podcast & Video Setup
Let me start by saying this: I am not a tech expert.
I wanted a setup that was simple, beginner-friendly, affordable, and professional enough to record podcast interviews, Zoom calls, YouTube videos, and online workshops without feeling overwhelmed.
My Webcam: Logitech C920x HD Pro Webcam
This webcam has honestly been one of the best simple upgrades for my business.
I use it for:
- podcast interviews
- Google Meet masterclasses
- coaching calls
- YouTube videos
- networking meetings
The quality is clear without needing a complicated camera setup, and it makes online calls feel much more professional while still being easy to use. I sometimes get compliments on how good I look (even when I tied my hair back and splashed my face with water!!!).
My Microphone: FIFINE USB Podcast Microphone
This microphone surprised me in the best way.
One of the things I love most is that I don’t even need headphones with it because the sound quality is so clear and it does a great job reducing background noise. It’s simple to plug in, easy to use, and makes recording podcast episodes and interviews feel much smoother and more comfortable.
As someone who values simplicity, I appreciate tools that work without creating extra stress.
My Ring Light
My current ring light is a basic desktop version that helps brighten my face during meetings and recordings, especially in winter or on darker afternoons. Would I choose a clip-on version if I bought one again? Probably yes. But honestly, even a simple ring light makes a huge difference when you work online regularly.
And that’s something I’m learning more and more in midlife business:
sometimes small upgrades create the biggest shifts in confidence.
My Planning & Productivity Tools
This is probably my favorite category because I truly believe organization creates calm. Not perfection, or hustle, or clarity, but a sense of organization no matter where you are in life or business!
My Life & Business Planner
I use my own planner:

I also use Google Calendar every single day to organize my appointments, podcast recordings, co-working sessions, and business tasks.
Honestly, Google Calendar has become one of the simplest but most important tools in my business, you can connect whatever scheduling tool you use to it and any time someone schedules a call with you it will automatically appear in your google calendar, just like magic!
My Favorite Pens
This might sound small, but if you love paper planning, you understand!
I use:

They write beautifully, feel smooth on paper, and somehow make planning feel more enjoyable.

The Platforms That Help Me Run My Business
These are the digital tools I genuinely use every week behind the scenes.
Teachery
I use Teachery to host courses and resources because I wanted something simple and clean without a million complicated settings.
As someone who values ease and simplicity, Teachery felt much more aligned with how I wanted my business to feel. I use Google Workspace for my professional email because I wanted a business email that felt established and trustworthy.
It may seem small, but having a personalized business email made me feel more invested in my business and more confident showing up professionally.
I also use Google Meet regularly for:

- and online meetings
CEO Systems Group
I use CEO Systems Group for CRM and community support. Having systems in place helps me stay organized without feeling like I’m juggling everything manually all the time.

Canva
I honestly use Canva almost daily.
It helps me create:
- Pinterest pins
- magazine graphics
- social media content
- presentations
- and workbooks
As someone who is creative but not formally trained as a designer, Canva has made content creation feel accessible and fun. And yes, sometimes I go in there just to play!
Flipbooklets
I publish LM Magazine using Flipbooklets, and I genuinely love the reader experience it creates.
It transforms a regular PDF into something that feels much more interactive and professional.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT has become one of my favorite brainstorming and organization tools.
I use it to:
- organize ideas
- brainstorm content
- outline articles
- improve workflows
- and sometimes simply get unstuck mentally
For someone balancing creativity, content, and business planning, it has been very helpful.
My Cozy Productivity Favorites
One thing I’ve realized in midlife is that environment matters more than I used to think.
I don’t want my workspace to feel cold or stressful, I want it to feel calm, warm, and supportive.
Candle Warmer Lamp
I use a candle warmer lamp instead of burning candles directly, and I absolutely love it. I have one similar to this one. It feels cozy, safer, and makes my office feel calmer while I work, and smelling divinely! You can see mine in the photo, I’m actually trying a new candle!!! I’m not sure if it’s as good as WoodWick but I will keep you posted.

There’s something about creating a peaceful atmosphere while working that makes showing up feel much more enjoyable… the fact that the candles are absolutely beautiful does help!
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned while building a business in midlife is this:
You do not need the most expensive setup.
You do not need every trendy tool.
And you definitely do not need to make your business more complicated to be successful.
What matters most is creating systems, tools, and routines that support your life, energy, and goals. For me, that means choosing tools that help me stay organized, creative, connected, and calm. And honestly? That approach has made building my business feel far more enjoyable and sustainable.
